Simplifying a complex scientific product range through clearer design, navigation and functionality
SciMed supplies specialist scientific equipment to organisations across the UK and Ireland. Having originally designed its previous website in 2018, I was asked to create a completely new digital platform that would better reflect the business, simplify its extensive product range and improve the experience for customers.
The new website was planned around how visitors search for products and technical information. I restructured the content, simplified the navigation and created a clearer visual system that allows detailed information to remain accessible without overwhelming the user.
Bespoke product filtering helps customers quickly narrow down the available equipment, while carefully considered product pages provide a consistent structure for specifications, applications, downloads and enquiries.
The website was designed and developed responsively in WordPress, giving the SciMed team a flexible platform that can be maintained and expanded as its product portfolio continues to grow.

What is included in a website design project?
Every project is tailored to the business, but typically includes discovery, sitemap planning, bespoke page design, responsive WordPress development, enquiry forms, testing and launch support. I can also provide content support, ecommerce functionality, analytics, SEO setup and ongoing website maintenance where required.
How long does it take to design and build a website?
Timescales depend on the number of pages, the complexity of the functionality and how quickly content and feedback are provided. Most business websites take several weeks from discovery to launch. Before work begins, I’ll provide a realistic schedule covering planning, design, development, testing and final delivery.
Will I be able to update the website myself?
